Confined Space Entry Awareness

Course Duration:  1 Day

Who should attend?

This training program is intended for individuals who will not be entering a confined space but require knowledge to identify a confined space and have an understanding of the hazards of a confined space.

  • Definitions of Confined Space (Federal/Provincial/C-NLOPB/CSA)
  • Legislative requirements
  • Hazard Assessment / Job Task Analysis
  • Chemical Hazards / Physical Hazards / Safety Hazards
  • Engineering Controls
  • Energy Isolation
  • Barriers
  • Ventilation
  • Administrative Controls
  • CSE Permit
  • Gas Testing
  • Assignment of Roles (safety watch)
  • CS Rescue Planning
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Fall Arrest Harness
  • Respiratory Protection

Confined Space (Level II) Entry

Course Duration:  2 Day

Who should attend?

This training program is intended for supervisors and employees who will be entering a confined space to complete work. Day 1 of the training includes all of the training material covered in the one-day Confined Space Awareness course, combined with Day 2 which involves hands-on practical exercises in the classroom and on our industrial Confined Space Simulator.

REL's training program and instructors are WorkplaceNL Approved and Certified.

Curriculum Topics include:

  • Hazard Assessment / Job Task Analysis
  • Inspect and verify implementation of Energy Isolations
  • Complete a CSE Permit to be used for entry into the CS Simulator
  • Assignment of Roles (safety watch)
  • Hands-on practical use of the Fall Arrest Harness
  • Setting up of the Tripod on the CS Simulator
  • Hands-on use of the Gas Detector (bump test gas detector and gas testing of the CS Simulator)
  • Hands-on use of SCBA (pre-use inspection / donning for entry into the CS Simulator)
  • Hands-on use of the Emergency Response Equipment (Tripod)
  • Completion of Practical CS Entry using Fall Arrest Harness and Tripod, SCBA, and Gas Detector

Note:  Participants must bring personal protective equipment.
